Who we serve

We went narrow on purpose, so your numbers get real expertise.

Most accounting firms take anyone who calls. We work deeply in two fields, which means we already understand how your money arrives, what it costs you to earn it, and which decisions actually move your tax bill.

Why it matters

A generalist can file your return. A specialist can change it.

There is a difference between an accountant who is technically correct and one who knows what to look for.

Both will get the arithmetic right. Only one will ask why your income dips every August, whether your clinical supervision hours are being expensed, how you are handling the associate you just brought on, or if the entity you chose three years ago still fits the practice you run today.

Those questions do not come from a checklist. They come from having sat with dozens of businesses that look like yours, seeing the same seasonal cash-flow dip, the same worker-classification mistake, the same shoebox of receipts that nobody categorized because nobody knew which category applied.

Safietou D. Russell, CPA, EA, MST has worked across more than 25 industries in a career spanning over 23 years. SDR Consulting was built by deliberately narrowing that experience, going deep in a handful of fields rather than shallow in all of them. That is why our onboarding conversations sound less like an interrogation and more like a colleague catching up.

It also means we say no sometimes. If your business sits far outside what we know well, we would rather tell you that on the first call than learn it together at your expense. Read more about how Safietou works.

The common thread

Two different fields, one very similar owner

Our clients rarely arrive because they love accounting. They arrive because the business outgrew the way they were handling it, and something finally made that impossible to ignore.

They are licensed or expert-led

The business runs on your credential, your judgment or your reputation. That makes your time the scarcest input, and every hour spent reconciling a bank feed an expensive hour.

Revenue is uneven

Seasonal dips, delayed reimbursement, project gaps, a launch that lands in one quarter. Uneven income makes estimated taxes genuinely hard, and it is exactly where guessing gets expensive.

They are hiring, or about to

The first associate, the first admin, the first subcontractor. Almost everyone gets the contractor-versus-employee decision wrong the first time, and the correction is far more expensive than the advice.

Somebody told them about an S-corp

A colleague, a Facebook group, a podcast. It might be right for you. It might cost you more than it saves. Nobody has run your actual numbers, which is the only way to know.

The books are behind

Not through carelessness, through a full calendar. Clean-up and catch-up work is one of the most common ways clients start with us, and nobody gets a lecture about it.

They want to hear from us more than once a year

The old arrangement was a return in April and silence until the next one. What they actually wanted was someone to call before signing the lease, not after.

She doesn't just take any client. You have to match the company's mission and values. She is extremely organized, detail oriented and intelligent. She takes privacy seriously and all your information is secure.

Whichever industry you're in, the work runs on these four

The service menu does not change from field to field. What changes is the judgment behind it, which deductions we chase, how the books are structured, and what your quarterly conversation is actually about.

Questions, answered

About working with a specialist firm

Why do you only specialize in a few industries?
Because depth beats breadth in tax work. Safietou has worked across more than 25 industries in over 23 years, narrowing to a handful means we already know your revenue model, your deductions and your compliance risks before you explain them. That shortens onboarding and surfaces planning opportunities a generalist would never think to look for. More about Safietou's background.
What if my business doesn't fit either of these?
Request a consultation and ask. These two are where we go deepest, but the underlying work (entity structuring, clean books, payroll compliance, quarterly planning) travels well to other professional service businesses. If we are not the right fit, we will say so plainly and point you toward someone better suited.
Do you work with clients outside New York?
Yes. We are a fully virtual firm based in Valley Stream, New York, serving clients in all 50 states. Meetings happen by video or phone and documents move through a secure client portal, so where you practice does not limit who can work with you.
Do the services change depending on my industry?
The menu is the same: tax preparation and planning, accounting and bookkeeping, payroll and retirement, advisory and formation. What changes is the judgment applied to it, which deductions we hunt for, how your chart of accounts is structured, what your quarterly conversation focuses on, and which compliance traps we watch for.
